Not the Texas Longhorns last second victory vs USC in 2005, not the 1958 Championship Game featuring the Baltimore Colts and the NY Giants, not even Highland Park's last second win against eventual 5A champion Garland...
No, The Greatest Game Ever Played was Team Hughes, who should be docked Fantasy Football points every week due to a complete lack of originality with his team's name, against suddenly surging, cig smoking whisky drinking Team Chaos; an epic 188 to 187 battle featuring some of the best individual games in our league's history.
To recap, Team Hughes shot out of the gate with 62 points from former ECU standout Chris Johnson. "Dash" broke three long runs for scores and staked Hughes to a huge lead from the get-go. Adding to the point total, Brett Farve dinked and dunked his way to 18 pts and Hughes was rewarded with 24 pts from the Vikings defense despite marked improvement from Hangover Phenom Matthew Stafford. Chaos quickly responded with strong efforts from Matt Schaub (47 points) and former Cobra Kai standouts Owen Daniels (13) and Michael Turner (19).
Chaos looked dead in the water until the 3:15 games, when Frank Gore opened the afternoon with an 80 yard TD scamper. Gore continued to shit on Team Hughes all afternoon, finishing with 53 pts. If either team had a decent WR we might have seen the 200 pt barrier shattered.
When the smoke cleared, Team Chaos emerged victorious, leaving a stunned fan base for Team Hughes hungry for changes at the top. 0-2 is a tough hole to climb out of and it's going to take some moves to get this team back into contention (ask Shelton).
"I mean, it's great...fucking great," said Team Chaos owner William Patterson Denton II. "I was the super pledge, showing up at the FIJI house at the crack of dawn to recreate that scene with Marky Mark in Boogie Nights, you know...the one where he pulls out his unit. The actives loved it! Tucker, man...that guy was always getting in trouble hanging out with Tommy Ballgame, Scott Keaton, Ben Price and those other SAE dudes from Longview. Bullshit. He had this coming son."
Our beatwriters caught up with Team Hughes owner Tucker Hughes at the Inwood Tavern. When asked to comment, Hughes declined, instead buring his face in his hands in shame and disbelief.
