Week One Previews

#1 Danna Montana vs. #10 Vince Young Witness (VY favored by 22 pts)
A blockbuster trade got the week started when Danna Montana owner, Dan Harris swiftly traded his 4th (Willie Parker) and 5th (Donovan McNabb) round picks to Team Awesome for his 2nd (Marshawn Lynch) Round pick and a waiver wire pick up (Kyle Orton). #10 VY owner, Chris Vittetoe, was quick to answer the gaffe by stating, “that Danna may have had a #1 hit on the charts, but no longer. I am looking forward to demolishing that two sided skank in one’ weeks time. “ Before the trade VY was favored by 21 points over Danna, once the trade goes through VY will be favored by 22 points.

Key Player for Danna: Marshawn Lynch—he was traded mid week and will be counted on to double up the points given up from what McNabb and Parker could have provided.
Key Player for VY: Vince Young—his troubles in camp have been documented look for them to continue against Jacksonville

Even though the rankings suggest this to be a dominating performance by Danna Montana, the numbers say VY should have no problems getting his first victory of 2008I go with VY this time and all the time.

#2 Team Hughes vs. #8 Cobra Kai (Cobra Kai favored by 40 pts)
League Statistician, Trey Fly, came up with a formula based on projected points for the season, but in the early matches the underdogs are largely favored. Cobra Kai enters this season without a trade and without 7 rookies on his roster. Rambie was interviewed during the week and said, “I can guarantee a victory this weekend, but I am betting I won’t cover the -40. Can we go off the record, I am going to take the first half line and double down. If you want some action, I will give you some action. I am already up on the season from college football and just have this itch.” While Hughes may have a great team for a playoff run, I just don’t see how he will win this one. Too much consistency from the Kai, to be taken down in week 1.

Key Player for Hughes: Peyton Manning—can he come back from surgery this early.

Key Player for Cobra Kai: Tony Romo—the larger than Texas Cowboys QB takes dead aim at a new banner to adorn Jerry World ’09.

#3 Team Awesome vs. #11 Team Miles (Awesome Favored by 23 pts)
A team who I think has the potential to win it all just got upgraded. I thought Awesome had the best draft in the league this year, but when speaking with team owner, Rider Knouse he convinced me that it was not very good. “My team is shady, I got LT when I thought I would have to take Westbrook, I traded one player for two, I have a white star receiver, my tight end is Mexican, and I have a completely bald QB,” said Knouse. I tried telling him that his team was good, but he just telling me it was the shadiest team in the league. Shady or not, Awesome wins week 1.

Key Player for Awesome: Roy Williams—will the former UT star finally break out in a contract year. He makes the amazing catch, but does not do all the little things. We will see this year cause Jerry might open up his wallet for him.

Key Player for Miles: John Kitna—it is all about the QB. It is time for Kitna to put up or shut the fuck up. He has a lot of stars on his team, but always underwhelms except when playing the Cowboys.

#4 Call Me Adam vs. #8 TX Torpedoes (Adam Favored by 21 points)
Torpedos are only favored in one position and that would be the kicker Rod Bironas. When the first thing you talk about is the kicker it is not good for your chances. Call Me Adam owner, Geoff Shelton, feels like he has a pretty complete team and I don’t disagree, but there are some positions I am sure he would like to solidify by the end of the year, however for this match-up he won’t need any upgrades. Two games tell it all for Brosseau’s Torpedoes, Green Bay vs. Minnesota and Cleveland vs. Dallas. In all my years of playing fantasy football I have never seen a team more weighted towards three teams. Diversification is needed here.

Key Player for Adam: Eli Manning—off of a Super Bowl MVP, will Manning here boos in his first game or will the progression continue.

Key Player for Torpedoes: Rod Bironas—the kicker might have a very good game especially if VY can’t find the end zone.

#5 Frog Killer vs. #7 Team Chaos (Frog Killer Favored by 12 pts)
Frog Killer team owner Beau Brooks, believes the SMU Mustangs will make a bowl game this year. I don’t buy it, but I do buy his fantasy football team. I like the dual action QB-WR combo, but I wish it was some other duo than Bulger-Holt, but with stable RB’s and solid WR’s, I don’t see how they won’t win this match-up. Team Chaos is well in Chaos, Denton is about to get married and obviously doesn’t have time for anything. He has gotten ornery at work, sends hate emails, and won’t comment to the press. Frog Killer takes the week one win.

Key Player for Frog Killer: Marc Bulger—will he come back from injury A-OK, will the line stay healthy and will S-Jax stay healty are the questions here. A lot of questions, but we will find out soon.

Key Player for Chaos: Darren McFadden—some say he is this year’s All Day. Some say Felix Jones is better than D-Mac. Some say he is a worth a 2nd Rd pick. Who is right?

#6 Heavy Hangers vs #12 Squid Row (Hangers Favored by 20 points)
It seems like the Heavy Hangers have done their homework this season. After a contraction of the league, team owner Trey Fly went back to the drawing board and discovers a recipe for success in our non-standard league. He has seven players in the Top 10 in each player’s position. He has a defense on the verge of being in the top 10, has an up and coming RB and an up and coming WR. This team has the potential to be great but won’t be put to the test in Game One. Squid Row Owner, Asher Reilly, had to succumb to his fate as the last pick in the draft and managed a solid draft. There are a lot of good players on Squid Row but the matchups won’t be there this game. Hangers win in a closer game than anticipated.

Key Player for Hangers: Michael Turner—the career back-up to the greatest RB in recent history gets it shot…but with Atlanta. Ugh

Key Player for Squid Row: Jake Delhomme—Jake is the first player to have Tommy John Surgery in NFL history. Will he come back as the Great Jake or will he become Jake the Snake.
